The two conventions are over ,we now have 60 days remaining in the most exciting political season in this writers memory. If you are a McCain backer or a Obama backer you need to do some thinking and ask yourself some questions concerning our future.
We all know the story, or narrative as the real pundits like to call it, of Iraq and how we ended up there in the first place. So if you have been backing Dubya down the line all of this time are you happy with what we have accomplished and how much it has cost? Is there are part of you that has to inwardly "settle" for those judgements that have been made? Has it been worth the 1 billion to remove Saddam? What process would you like to see in the future to determine if we should spend another Billion to go to a War ?
A major program that Obama will put forth will be some form of universal health care. Once again we all have some idea of the horrors perpetrated on those folks that , for one reason or another, can't get health care insurance or go bankrupt trying to pay for proper health care service. Are we happy or satisfied with the reality of our country's health care system? Are we willing to pay what it will cost ? Can we afford 70 billion a year to fund such an operation? How can we make this decision within our current system of government in a way that is efficient, responsive and fair?
In his interview on the " No Spin Zone" Barack Obama talked about resources . I think that is the word that best describes just what we need to think about when we discuss the previous questions or any other questions about our country as well. Resources are everything that it takes to provide whatever good or service ( or War) that we all agree to provide. And that means people, money emotional turmoil, goodwill and our own security. I think we are at a time when we have diminished our resources. Of course war is a resource waste ( ask Great Britain after WW l ) and sending 700 billion for what we can provide ourselves is a waste. We need new jobs. We need to create a new industry that provides jobs and provides energy to our country. We need to be a leader in renewable energy and in the production of it.
Last summer we all watched as our Congress tried to settle the question of Immigration. Are you happy with the outcome and the resources it took to reach that outcome? The Congress spent weeks on this issue, spent plenty of time talking on TV about the issue and spent plenty of time occupying positions concerning the issue with no compromise. Was this a waste of resouces ...? Yes it was , and the waste goes beyond the time spent or the money wasted paying Congress for their effort. We can't afford to have a Congress that wastes so much of Our Resources.
We Need A Leader
