Real Politics

As an idealist I have a picture in my mind that everyone wants what is best for our country. That's simple enough. Some would say .....whats best ? Low unemployment, low inflation, good schools, home being built....you know all the basics. I am an idealist because to some that are elected and also those that just earn a living commenting on the elected the reality is much different.

For example Senator Vitter of Louisiana; he want the stimulus plan to fail. That way the GOP can take back power and he gets to say what gets done or not done. Here is a copy / paste from the Huff;

According to Vitter, the GOP is basically betting the farm that the stimulus package is going to fail, and the party wants Democrats to go down with it. "Our next goal is to make President Obama and liberal Democrats in Congress own it completely," he said. Instead of coming up with serious measures to save the economy, the party intends to devote its time to an "we told you so" agenda that will include GOP-only hearings on the bill's impact in the coming months to highlight the bill's purportedly wasteful elements and shortcomings.

I have a hard time with this , its on both sides of the aisle of course...its just too ugly though. I like the idea of everyone pulling together for a common goal or finding some basis for agreement. I think our President understands this reality and that he knows how to deal. I hope so and I'll remain an idealist either way.

You know , yesterday the stimulus plan passed both Houses and is awaiting the President signature...all done with only 3 GOP Senators help in either house . The administration is getting some backwash for the effort not being Bi-partisan. Given the type of nonsense that the Senator from Louisiana above feels is necessary why blame Obama or why say he can't get us all to work together. This idea is new ....working together....and Obama will keep working at it.
