The average sedan in our country get Twenty Miles Per Gallon of gas. In our country we need to encourage companies to produce cars with higher MPG and we need to encourage our people to buy these cars that have higher MPG.
For starters a buyer of a car that gets 30 or more MPG would get a tax credit on the personal income tax for buying a high MPG car. And, the more MPG the car gets ....the more of a tax credit would be given.
Now , there is more, each year this same car would use less gas than a car that gets 20 MPG. So, each year the owner of a car that gets 30 or more MPG would get a continuing credit for the gas that car doesn't use. The more MPG the greater the tax credit.
The purchaser gets the one time credit for the purchase and an ongoing tax credit for the gas this same car doesn't use. The result would be a Fleet , all American cars on the road, that uses less and less gas. And, our country would become the leader in high MPG cars.
This , of course, goes along with the 50 cent a gallon tax on each and every gallon of gas that is purchased. The money collected would go for major mass transit projects ....bullet trains.
