The Times, They Are A Changing

George Bush walks to the podium in a Rose Garden announcement. There is no fanfare only the clip clip clip of the thousands of camera shots going off very rapidly. He really starts speaking before he gets to the podium, seems very serious and at one point he stumbles. The CNN has said that he has a 3:30 flight ...no telling . But this is a lame duck president speaking, there is no doubt about that. There are no questions, he speaks , he leaves....its time.

This summer at the close of the two conventions we, as a country, had a change of the ruling class . Ever since Ronald Reagan left office we have had either a Bush or a Clinton in the White House for a total of 20 years. Although these different administrations were very different in every way their passing on is an end of an era. Just by the fact that we chose to not continue on with a Clinton this time around....that's it, the end. Enough .

As John McCain and Barack Obama come into town and support the economic package which ultimately passes, it is really the beginning of the new administration . We aren't completely sure who it will be but it is sure that we won't have George Bush to kick around anymore. He will sign the bill and go off to Texas. There , for years to come , he will be ensconced in the arms of old line Texans that know him and love him. There is a very real sense that Old Dubya and those around him failed us all with this economic collapse. At some earlier point there should have been a loud bell rung to warn us of this disaster and an effort to go past Congress to the people to stop this thing.

This economic package is really a Democratic package. Seventy Three percent of Democrats voted for it in the house as the GOP could only get forty-five percent of their members to see reality. It is starting to look like a Democratic future. Obama leads in the pols, and the House and Senate show similar promise. So, if they are taking over it is fitting that they back this bill , and then administer the Bill also.

With this Democratic future will we see a future that offers what we have all been talking about;
Will we have universal health care?
Will we have an Energy policy that creates the United States as a leader in energy technology?
Will the strain on the middle class ease up some?

As George Bush flies off to Texas we all turn our attention to a Washington dominated by a Black Harvard Grad that wants to bring about change. He won't be alone to create the change , this whole world is changing anyway .
