Mr.Pickens is Very Smart ...But we Already Knew That

Around March of this year the housing and mortgage crisis was in full bloom. Sort of like what algae does in our pool when we don't pay attention to details. Widely touted new legislation designed to help our country to navigate these troubled waters was put together by Congress and expected to pass easily. As of July 2008 this new program is suffering the perils of congressional politicking and add on amendments designed to make separate congressional "leaders " look just swell during an election year. It may never pass...or get signed .

This original program made lots of sense. Re-hab FHA ,Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, improve the housing market and get this economy moving again. It even included some help for Katrina related property. Was this a perfect bill? Probably Not. Do we need to have the Federal Government take action to get this economy moving again? I am sure we do. Should we provide more aid to the Katrina affected areas? You could argue the point...but sure we should they all got hammered by that storm.

What concerns me is the lack of leadership in Congress. They may just try and outdo each other all summer long, get nothing done and then we'll be into 2009 before some help comes. Mean-while whole industries are being devastated while congress just can't do anything.

The larger picture is even more scary. Our real long term crisis is energy. We have the ability to overcome our obstacles, but can our "leaders "actually work together and get something done?

Here is a link to a slide show by T.Boone Pickens that shows some real possibilities for a solution that could literally break the back of the oil speculators and cut in half the amounts of money that we send out of the country every day. And, put us closer to being Energy Independent.

This is the kind of thing that turns situations like the ones we are facing here in the United States around. I wonder how many of our Paid Congressional Leaders have seen this link and what their thoughts are? Could they possibly get something like this done, in a timely manner and with some unity? I hope so. Can these elected officials that work for you and me learn from their mistakes and develop some leadership and learn how to work together? They need to.

One thing I do know. In the presentation he says that this could be accomplished in 10 years. Once this program of wind replacing natural gas was announced, funded and the shifting of resources was started a great thing would happen. We would see our dollar rise in world markets, oil prices would stabilize, our leaders will have learned how to lead and we could then torn our attention to the future.
