Resources , Foreign Policy and the Process

Visiting the Smithsonian Institute and seeing the vast array of military weaponry we have sent into the air to spy and deliver bombs with brought back to me the amazing amount of money our nation spends to be a super-power. As you view the different airborne equipment from the Wright Brothers simple machine to the high flying drones it becomes clear that much of our history in the air was in one way or another a history of war.

Currently we spend more on weapons and soldiers than all the rest of country's combined. We feel that we have to protect the interests of the United States and save the world. A good and wise friend told me back in 2003 when we were all trying to understand attacking Iraq that history would tell us if this was a wise idea or not. I think we have history's answer. The cost in lives of Americans has been 4500 at least and the cost to Iraq has been 70,000 at least. The cost for hardware has been vast . Both of these costs , in people and in treasure, were spent to take over another country. Should we make the decision , by a Great decider, and act on such a decision by ourselves as a nation? Can we afford to make such a decision? I don't think so.

The answer is clear to me . We are charging up costs with our supposed need to control other nations that our checkbook can no longer afford. Our foreign policy should only reflect what we can afford. Our foreign policy should be powered by words not bullets.

Our country is facing a financial disaster because of too much Military spending. Those dollars that we are borrowing to run war would be much better spent running schools, hospitals and renewable energy . Our "Great Decider" needs to learn to work well with other world leaders to have a more peaceful world.

A better way would have been to work with the United Nations to create a united nations that works well to stop those people that want to terrorize or deny freedom to others. Yes, we would have to share the power to decide, the power to act and the cost with all the other nations. We can no longer be a nation whose history is dominated by war. War as I have said is too costly and we can't afford it.

Next...continue the tax breaks or raise taxes...What is Best for a "Great Recession"?
