One of the things I remember my mother saying is that during the Great Depression in Nashville, " Just nobody had Any Money" . She was born in 1913 so at the time of the Crash she was aware of what was going on. By the time FDR took office I'm sure all the genteel poor in Nashville were cutting corners pretty tight. By 1932 our country was experiencing some terrible times and the fellow at the top that was doing Next to nothing was a Republican, Herbert Hoover. He was one that believed that too much government intervention would take away that all important self-reliance. Very noble of him as veterans from WW I camped out in Washington waiting on the money that was due them. Hungry and starving they finally had to be run off by the US Army.

Today we are at a critical time in which we need the government to take action and get this economy back into a growth trend. Yesterday a very smart man came forward to lead the way for us to see the answer to our problem . Not by standing in a room and telling us what he thinks but by investing in a company. Warren Buffett invested 5 Billion dollars in Goldman Sachs yesterday saying that he was sure that Congress would do the right thing. His comments concerning this credit problem leave no doubt as to his views on whether or not we need to take the action that Dubya has put forth. Matter of fact he is saying that this program will actually make money for the country. Imagine that.... here is the link to Mr.Buffett

In the face of such a storied, brilliant, and self reliant man supporting this program what amazes me are the comments by all kinds of pundits, commentators and fools that say we should Not invest in America. And, at the very bottom of their opinion is the idea that the government has no place in a FREE market. That taking this action would take away our self reliance. This starts to sound familiar. Basically rich white, Republicans saying that we should just let all credit markets fail. And then sooner or later we would all , being very self reliant, crawl out from our hovels and create a new system that would be pure because we all did it on our own....5 years later.

We are doing it on our own. We are doing it as a nation.
